TREATMENT FAQ’s

  • During your appointment, you will get a holistic and unique care plan where we look at your entire body and how to heal it from the inside out. Your practitioner will gain insight into your health history, body and concerns. From there we will formulate a herbal prescription (where necessary) and determine a treatment plan. This is adjusted at each visit to coincide with the changes in your condition.

  • Cupping therapy is an ancient Chinese Medicine therapy in which a cup is applied to the skin and the pressure in the cup is reduced (either by heat or suction) to draw and hold skin and superficial muscles inside the cup. Cupping has the same effect as a deep tissue massage.

It can also loosen muscles, encourage blood flow, and calm the nervous system (which makes it an excellent treatment for tension and pain in the body, headaches, and stress.

  • Most patients will describe the feeling of cupping as weird, relaxing or like an inside out massage. Sometimes you will bruise or the area we cup will look very red or almost purple. The colouring will last for a few days or a week, depending on how acute or chronic your symptoms are. You may have seen Gwenyth Paltrow in her backless dress at the oscars or many athletes sporting their cupping marks.

If you are constantly getting massages that only give you relief for the day, this is your treatment!

  • Acupuncture is generally not painful even though everyone’s idea of discomfort varies and the majority of our first time patients say that it's completely the opposite to what they thought it would be.

It may feel weird or uncomfortable or like an electrical feeling or even a warm movement around your limbs. Also, if you have seen Acupuncture performed in movies you would have noticed the patient has hundreds of needles on their face or back, this is not real life, that is Hollywood! In movies this is done because the needles are so fine that the viewer would never see them on the screen otherwise. The most needles you would have at any one time is around 10 or so.

  • Our herbs are intended to be taken as tea, which can be stored in the fridge and last you up to 3 days.

We also make and sell our own tinctures. These are concentrated herbs soaked in alcohol. A few drops of the liquid can be dissolved in water and drank.

  • Each case is unique. Your practitioner will create a personalised treatment plan and recommend the frequency of visits. Generally, though we like to see you weekly for 2 or 3 sessions and then we pace these out to fortnightly and monthly. Once you notice a change in your condition you will have all the tools to manage it yourself- acupressure points that we teach you, somatic practices that we show you and gut health and lifestyle modifications along side your herbs.

  • The short answer is no. We can all benefit from Traditional Chinese Medicine. The beauty of Chinese Medicine is that it treats all your symptoms holistically. There is no perfect state of health. In our theory of Yin and Yang, health is in constant flux. We can always be calmer, healthier, have better digestion or quality of sleep and a calmer mood. Also, our normal is normal. If you have had period pain all your life, then you may think of that as normal when this is not the case. Or if you get tired after lunch you may also think this is normal if you haven’t experienced the lack of bloating which we consider normal.
